Where We Are in Place and Time- Week 12

This week Kindergarten continued the inquiry personal histories inform our lives, by focusing on the cultural significance and history of bread. The students listen to the story Bread, Bread, Bread by Ann Morris. In this book the students discovered that people all over the world eat all different types of breads. For show and tell, the students were given the opportunity to bring in breads from their native countries. Many of the breads were traditional and have had long histories in their countries of origin. The students really seemed to enjoy learning about the different types of bread. They especially loved practicing the IB learner profile attribute of being open-minded when they sampled all of the breads.

This week the students also continued their inquiry on sequence by conducting a simple science experiment. All of the students were given an opportunity to put an egg in vinegar. The eggs were placed in the vinegar all week and the students have been recording the changes of the egg. When finished the students will have a complete illustrated sequence of what happens to an egg if it is put in vinegar,

Some parents joined us for our show and tell about bread. Here we are learning about the history of bread from Australia.

The students continued an inquiry of sorting this week by sorting different colored materials into a color wheel.
