How the World Works- Week 23

This week in Kindergarten the students continued their inquiry on the life cycle of different animals. For show and tell this week the students were asked to share something related to their favorite baby animal. Discussing the features of the different baby animals helped the students in creating their next page for their life cycle of an animal book. When completed this book will serve as the summative task for our unit, How the World Works.

This week was also science and numeracy week at JIES. The week consisted of many different math and science centers. The students enjoyed participating in centers where they could build, plant, work with electric circuits and parachute making. The week ended with the students participating in a school-wide race wherein all of the students had the opportunity to race their cars. The cars were all made from recycled materials.

The students also focused on the IB learned attribute of creativity this week. The students listen to the story, Not a Box. This story shows a rabbit who imagines a box being a variety of different things such as a rocket ship and a mountain; anything but a box. Inspired by this the students were encourage to create something from their own imaginations out of recycled materials. The students were so creative! They produced many wonderful items such as retractable spy glasses, ninja stars, otters, drums, maracas and so much more.

Have a great weekend!
