Week 7- Who We Are

Kindergarten has been really busy this week as we prepare for our celebration of learning!
This week we worked on making a self-portrait cover for our Who We Are books. When completed this book will serve as our summative task for our current unit which is an inquiry on the self. The students created many pages for their individual books which you will be able to view next week at our celebration.
This week the students also finished the classroom essential agreement. After a very lengthy inquiry the students finally decided on certain values and behaviors that they promise to abide by in the classroom. The essential agreement is now posted in our classroom. The students detailed both in words and illustrations their promises for the rest of the year. Please make sure to take a look at this next week.

Also, this week we began to introduce to children to more math and literacy centers. We have incorporated many new manipulatives and have introduced an IT center during both subjects. The students love having options in their learning processes.

Finally, the students began to focus on the IB learner profile. This week we focused on what it means to be caring. The students discussed all the ways they care for things, people and the planet. When you visit our room next week please take a look at what each student wrote and illustrated for this attribute.

Next week is literacy week and the celebration of learning. We look forward to seeing all of you! The students cannot wait to share and celebrate their learning from this unit.

Looking in the mirror helped the children find and illustrate the details of their faces.

PMP team work.

In music we continued to learn about percussion. The children used percussion instruments and were also introduced to different types of drumming. This week the students saw videos of competitive drum lines, Navajo drumming and drum solos from famous rock n roll artists such as John Bonham.

Essential Agreement!!!

The students have been learning how to sequence our daily schedule.

The students continuing our inquiry on shapes by recreating their own versions of  Wassily Kandinsky's famous Concentric Circle painting.
