Who We Are - Week 5

This week we continued our inquiry of the self by exploring the human relationships we develop with our friends and community.

This week students listen to the story The Rainbow Fish. This is a story about a fish who learns to make friends after he understands the concept of sharing. Before the students listened to the story they helped to list ideas about what they felt it means to be a friend. Some of the students said things like, "A friend is someone who helps you and someone you can talk nicely too."
After listening to the story the students came up with many more ideas about what it means to be a friend. We continued to explore the concept of friendship this week by creating portraits of our friends, sharing photos of our friends for show and tell and measuring our friends.

This week the students are also beginning to explore what it means to responsible to the community. The students all helped to create a list of different jobs they decided were needed in the classroom. We now have a community helpers chart where the children have different responsibilities each day. The students absolutely love being responsible for a different daily task.

As, you know this week we also went on an excursion to a park near the school.
At the park the students continued our inquiry of shapes by looking for different shapes around the park. Once the children decided on a shape they took a picture by themselves of the object. With these photographs we made a book that is all about shapes.

 Have a great weekend!

We introduced the triangle this week in music.
